Description: Like the historically significant Francis Scott Key Hall, Madison Hall was converted to dormitory use. This building was originally built as the Flagler Apartments, and is representative of apartment buildings from the late 1920’s through 1940s that the University has converted to dormitories. The building was acquired by GW in 1957, and during remodeling it was noted that “high-speed automatic” elevators would replace manually operated ones. It became co-ed in 1972/73.
Madison Hall was named for James and Dolly Madison. Madison was a principal architect of the Constitution, our fourth President and our first wartime President.
