Founded in 1990, the Multicultural Student Services Center of The George Washington University (GW) provides academic, co-curricular, and personal support services for all GW minority students to enhance minority student life at GW. Through the Center, minority students receive orientation to the various University resources, and are made aware of the many cultural activities and programs that exist on campus and in the greater metropolitan area. The Center provides professional and peer counseling, course advising, tutorial referrals, and campus and community mentoring programs. The staff is available to address students' academic and personal concerns.
The Multicultural Student Services Center also provides a wide range of services, educational programming, as well as social and cultural activities to enhance the multicultural ideals, cultural heritage, racial understanding, academic excellence, and continuous personal development for all students. The Center oversees the Diversity Program Clearinghouse, which supports various programs designed to educate the campus in areas of cultural diversity and socio-economic issues. The Center houses a resource center with reference books and instructional materials, and coordinates various preparatory and pre-college programs.
The Director of the Center reports to the Senior Vice President for Student and Academic Support Services.
