Description: The building was named for Luther Rice in 1967, following a Board of Trustees decision January 19. Rice was instrumental in founding the University in 1821 as the Columbian College. The building, formerly an apartment house (called the East End), was purchased and extensively renovated to house the University' s administrative and other offices. The building was completed in 1967. The name Luther Rice Hall was the suggestion of University Historian Elmer Louis Kayser.
