Student Life: Women's Dormitories, 1926

From GWUEncyc

Article

Dormitories for the women of George Washington are at last a fact. Under the direction of Dean Anna L. Rose, one department on the third floor and another on the fourth floor of the Marion Apartment House, 2000 H Street, have been tastefully decorated, and will be ready for occupancy on Saturday. There are some single rooms and some double rooms. The appointments are of walnut and wicker.

Each room will have among other furnishings a walnut chest of drawers with a polychrome mirror, table desk, and colonial rag rugs. This will enable the girls to arrange colour schemes according to their individual tastes. The living room has comfortable and attractive furnishings and lights.

There will be no preferences to any class in the dormitory. There is, however, accommodation for only a limited number of girls, and Dean Rose has received almost enough applications to fill the rooms.

Miss Hopkins, director of Physical Education for Women, is to be the “House Mother.” Rules for the girls will be announced when they take possession of the rooms.

Although no definite plans have been announced, it is generally expected that there will be a party for the House Mother and the new “dorm girls.”
