Student Life: 1890s

As the decade began the Enosinian Society was very popular on campus. The president of the Alumni Association was B.H. Warner, Esq. Activities included the Glee Club and participation in fraternities such as Pi Beta Phi, founded in 1867, and Pi Beta Phi Sorority. The football team played Kalorama, Emerson, Georgetown and Kendall to name a few. Also the the "Original Thirteen" were organized. The group was organized from the first 13 women to attend the University.

The Board of Editors for the 1899 Columbiad (University Yearbook) included J. Geatty and N. Monroe Hopkins. Fraternities included Sigma Chi and Pi Beta Phi and the Enosianian Society was still very popular.

Organizations on campus included the Society for Philosophic Dissertation, Disquistion, Discussion and disputation, founded in 1899. There was also the Bicycle Club, The Old Guard, The Columbian College Glee Club, Luncheon Club, the Chuckling Club: Motto: Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die,." YMCA and the YWCA. In sports we had the Columbian University Lawn Tennis Association and baseball.
