Student Life (1920s)

"The control of all student activities was centralized in the Board of Managers, subject to the authority of the President's Council and the Board of Trustees. The faculty was represented by four members, the student body by two and the alumni by two. The Director of Student Activities is the chairman. Three of the faculty members are appointed by the president of the University, the students elect their representatives, and the president of the general alumni association appoints the two alumni members. The duties of the Board of Managers as stated specifically in the plan recently adopted by the Board of Trustees are as follows:

  • To control and direct student activities
  • To determine the amount of the voluntary student fee
  • To appropriate funds from the student activities treasury
  • To have final decision as to the selection of coaches or instructors for all student activities."

"The Student Council was organized in 1916 by virtue of certain resolutions passed by the President's Council with a view to having the Student Council endeavor to stimulate interest in all student activities and to assist in securing financial support for the athletic teams."
