Troubadours

Article
The following was written in 1955:
“Thule reactions to any situation are likely to be different. Bob Hope, the comic brought a show to Thule [Greenland], for Christmas, 1954. He was welcomed, because, after all, he had a bevy of very pretty girl-type assistants the men nostalgically recall. But Hope and his theatrical beauties were not feted here as at other bases.
“There was a good explanation. On the base at exactly the same time were 16 college girls, members of the amateur glee club from George Washington University.
“The college group went everywhere. The girls served food at all meals - and in all the messes. They were very sweet and natural and just themselves. They were always ready to talk to the men, shut away from their own womenfolk for months. They laughed a lot, and were interested in the base and its operations.
“Toughest competition I ever had,” Hope said later. “We almost had an arctic egg.”
